What Is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is Thailand's national martial art — called the art of eight limbs because it uses punches, kicks, elbows, and knees as eight distinct weapons. Developed over centuries and pressure-tested in rings around the world, it's widely considered the most effective striking art on the planet. Unlike point-style kickboxing, Muay Thai is full-contact and clinch-oriented: fighters battle for dominant position in close, score with devastating round kicks and teeps, and finish exchanges with knees and elbows.

But you don't need to be a fighter to train it. At 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Murrieta, our Muay Thai program serves everyday adults from Murrieta, Temecula, Menifee, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake — people who want a phenomenal workout, real striking skill, and the confidence that comes from knowing their techniques actually work.

Why Train Muay Thai?

Fitness that doesn't feel like exercise. Pad rounds, bag work, and bodyweight conditioning build explosive power, cardiovascular endurance, and core strength simultaneously — and the hour flies by because you're learning, not just sweating.

Real skill, not choreography. Every technique we teach is functional. You'll learn proper mechanics for the jab, cross, hooks, uppercuts, round kicks, teeps, knees, elbows, and the clinch — the same fundamentals taught in Thailand, adapted for beginners.

Stress relief like nothing else. Ask any student: there's no better end to a hard day than an hour of pad work. The focus striking demands empties your mind of everything else.

A complete martial artist trains both. Our academy is unique in Southwest Riverside County: authentic Muay Thai and authentic 10th Planet no-gi jiu jitsu under one roof. Striking and grappling are the two halves of the complete game, and our students who train both progress faster in each.

What You'll Learn

Our curriculum covers the full art progressively. Beginners master stance, footwork, and the core punches before adding kicks — because power comes from the ground up, and our coaches are meticulous about mechanics. From there: round kicks and teeps (with proper hip turnover, the detail that separates arm-kickers from real Nak Muay), knee and elbow techniques, defensive fundamentals (blocking, parrying, footwork escapes), and clinch work — the standing grappling that makes Muay Thai unique among striking arts.

Advanced students refine timing, combinations, and fight IQ through technical sparring (always optional, always controlled). Every level trains with the same standard: sharp technique first, intensity second.

What a Class Feels Like

Walk in, wrap your hands, and start moving. Class opens with a high-energy warmup — jump rope, shadowboxing, dynamic stretching — then technique instruction where coaches break down the night's strikes in detail. The heart of the session is pad rounds: you and a partner alternate holding and hitting, building timing, power, and conditioning in the most fun way possible. We close with core work and stretching.

First-timers are often surprised by two things: how fast the hour goes, and how welcoming the room is. Nobody expects you to know anything on day one. You'll leave drenched, exhilarated, and already thinking about the next session — which is exactly why so many of our students from across the Temecula Valley made Muay Thai their weekly ritual.
